The reign of the 111th Congress and the lack of rein of the 111th congress should be clear indicators that progressives should never be in control both houses of congress and the executive branch of government. Neither party, nor any singular political ideology, should have the kind of unconstrained ability that this congress and administration have shown the American people.
When lawmakers blatantly and boastfully extol phrases and statements like “No one will know until this is actually in place how it works. But we believe we’ve done something that has been needed for a long time…” Chris Dodd referring to the Cap and Tax bill with Henry Waxman’s amendments or SanFranNan’s double honkers, “…we will go through the gate. If the gate is closed, we will go over the fence. If the fence is too high, we will pole vault in. If that doesn’t work, we will parachute in. But we are going to get health care reform passed for the American people for their own personal health and economic security and for the important role that it will play in reducing the deficit”, and “But we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it…” certainly say a lot for their respect for the citizens of our country. To me these statements say, “No matter what the public thinks or wants, we elite will have our way even if we don’t know or understand what our way represents”.
The most indicative statement of what was about to come has to be the arrogant statement of our newest president mere days after his inauguration. To end a discussion on the impact of an $825 billion stimulus package and the questioned need for tax cuts to people who do not pay taxes, Obama said to Jon Kyl, “I won. So I think on that one, I trump you.” A nine-year-old half wit would understand that to mean dissent or policy discussion would be off the table then and for the future of this presidency.
When our elite turn against the people of the nation with name calling and trying to turn one economic or racial class against others, we are a republic in name only. If you are against the policies of this administration, you are a racist. If you are in favor of allowing people to keep and spend their earnings as they choose, you hate poor people. If you don’t want universal health care, it is only because you’re stupid and don’t understand it.
Our federal government and sub-entities are restricting, directing and over-controlling our lives. The elite are taking more and more liberties with the power granted them. Our representatives are abusing those liberties and powers, granting themselves more authority to restrict and deny our opportunity for meaningful and actionable input. The President awaits congressional recesses to appoint radicals to cabinet positions and ambassadorships who could never win confirmation through normal process. We are moving from a Democratic Republic to fascist dictatorship faster than the indoctrinated youth of today can understand. They have been trained to want the change and expect handouts from others, via the government, for a subsistent survival. The public education system is working.
