The Magical Mystery Tour continues to fascinate me. Unemployment numbers continue to drop while the unemployment and Welfare roles continue to expand. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, the numbers recently took another downturn (positive measure) to 6.6% from 6.7%. Unemployment also fell just before the 2012 election. That happenstance along with the video that sparked the Benghazi massacre helped the president’s re-election campaign. It was like the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour. If you choose to believe, “They’re coming to take you away…”

Being an inquisitive guy, I have to look into things like this. I can’t simply accept what others want me to believe. With the unemployment numbers in particular, there is cause for skepticism. Let’s look at how this may have happened.

In this example I’ll use a population of 1,000 able bodied potential workers. Let’s say that 934of them enjoy full-time employment and a regular paycheck. That is 93.4% employment. Conversely, that is 6.6% unemployment. Right now, however, the number of unemployed is considerably higher.

Conveniently, the BLS drops the potential workers who are now beat down and discouraged by the fact that they cannot get a job in their field or any other. Many of those same people have applied for jobs that are well below their skill, knowledge, education or ability levels. Engineers can’t get work in manufacturing, sales, retail or burger flipping because employers don’t like turnover. They are afraid that an engineer will jump ship as soon as a job comes along in his or her field and constantly training new employees is unproductive.

Out-of-work pilots, engineers, sales managers, production supervisors and the like eventually tire of hearing “I cannot hire you because you’re overqualified for the position”. Most will downplay their education and former positions to accommodate the needs of a potential employer. When they still cannot find a job they abandon the fight, accept unemployment insurance and / or Welfare for subsistence and adjust their lifestyle to accommodate the lack of income.

Because these potential employees gave up the fight, the BLS no longer counts them. They are still unemployed, just not counted. The BLS buries the actual figure so deep that I cannot find it. You know that your neighbor two houses down is in foreclosure because he or she has been out of work for the past nine months, thirteen months or two years. You know that your uncle Fred cannot find work and moved in with his kids. You know your own kids have given up the fight and are still living with you, or living with you again.

You also know that your buddy Jack now works two part-time jobs attempting to make ends meet. Part-time, full-time, the BLS doesn’t account for that. To the BLS, a job is a job and two fifteen hour jobs equals two jobs for the purpose of their statistics. Two jobs at fifteen hours each rather than one at forty hours brings the total number of man-hours worked down by 25%. That doesn’t count either. So, for our project let us use what I believe are realistic comparative numbers.

Using the 1,000 eligible workers, let’s say that the Bureau of Labor Statistics no longer counts 250. That 250, plus the 66 unemployed, that they do count is 316 people who are not working. That is an honest 31.6% (316/1000=.316) unemployment rate. That is almost 1/3 of potential American workers who are idle, either by choice or circumstance. It doesn’t bode well for a robust economy.

Drop a tab and take the Magical Mystery Tour of government manipulation statistics.

It floors me that the President of the United States of America, the ruler with the largest cabinet and government the country has ever known, gets his information from the daily newspapers. It has been his excuse with everything from the New Black Panthers at the polls to the Cambridge police / Professor Gates (the police acted stupidly) to Fast and Furious to the IRS scandal and now to the Justice Department plucking phone records from the AP.

Why couldn’t the Justice Department start with the records of government employees using government phones and email to find out who may have leaked information? Why did they have to start with private citizens?

“Just like you, I got the information this morning from the Washington Post.” I guess he has to see what the papers are saying to gin up the proper spin for Carney. Jay, after all, has to point the finger in a direction that will lead truth seekers on a wild goose chase.

His cabinet admits to informing him about Benghazi. But he was tired from a long day and had to rest up before taking the long flight to Vegas to dazzle donors and beg for more money to defeat Mitt Romney. Perhaps that one time he was informed of the disaster created by his underlings before he read about it in the morning paper.

At any rate, we do know there was contact with the President on that one. That was the time some obscure, unseen YouTube video caused all the problems that left four Americans dead. He couldn’t have had all the information about that situation.

The Justice Department secretly pulled phone records from the AP because reporters may have information that is important to the country. Do you suppose Eric did this to keep the President ignorant, to keep the news out of the papers that he might read in the morning?

No, that’s not the case because Eric Holder didn’t know anything about the phone records until that story broke. It was his immediate subordinate, Deputy Attorney General James Cole, whose wardrobe is adorned with tire tread imprints from the proverbial bus this time.

The leader of the nation and his entire squadron of cabinet members and department heads know nothing about what happens within the government. They have to read about it all in the newspapers or watch it brought forth on FOXNews. Once they see it on FOXNews, they can discredit it as just more racism from the Right Wing Conspiracy.

I have been assured by the President himself, however, late yesterday afternoon that he will get to the bottom of it all, and justice will be done, those responsible will be held accountable. Of course, in Obamaspeak, that means someone will retire with full benefits, but not receive this year’s bonus.

During a presidential campaign, Barack Obama promised to run the most transparent White House in history—disclosing donations, shunning lobbyists, and broadcasting important meetings on C-SPAN.  In his inaugural address, he expanded the definition of transparency as quoted below.

“Government should be transparent.  Transparency promotes accountability and provides information for citizens about what their Government is doing.  Information maintained by the Federal Government is a national asset. My Administration will take appropriate action, consistent with law and policy, to disclose information rapidly in forms that the public can readily find and use. Executive departments and agencies should harness new technologies to put information about their operations and decisions online and readily available to the public. Executive departments and agencies should also solicit public feedback to identify information of greatest use to the public.”

By dictionary definition

Transparent – adjective:

     1.   easily seen through, recognized, or detected

     2.   manifest; obvious

Transparency – noun:

     1.  the quality or state of being transparent.

We know that definitions change over the years as usage is abused or misuse becomes common.  When that occurs, customarily, dictionaries add new colloquial or “street” definitions to their entries.  I believe it is time to modify the dictionary definitions, since the President of the United States has redefined them, to include the following.

Transparent – verb:

1.   to lie, obfuscate, confuse, cloud, or muddle

  1.  purposefully and intentionally misdirect, misguide, mislead
  2.  to be secretive, opaque
  3.  tacitly stall

Perhaps I should contact Encyclopedia Britannica, the current owners of Merriam-Webster, Inc. to suggest our president’s new definition.

Here we go again.  Benghazi has key players in the White House scrambling under the rugs.  They want to make the whole debacle go away quietly.  Democrats in both the White House and on the investigative committee continue accusing Republicans of politicizing the failure to protect Americans abroad.  Almost everybody on the left, whether they do or do not care for their compatriots’ lives, willingly protect the very people they should condemn.  The proverbial buck stops with the highest ranking office assistant who can be reassigned to a lateral position with a mouth-shutting pay raise.

“What difference, at this point, does it make?”  The words and gestures of Hillary Clinton, in January of this year, during her recalcitrant participation in the investigation have become so famous that they can even be seen on ABC.  They’re defended, but none-the-less they are aired.  The administration managed to hide and deflect for four months, after which Benghazi was supposed to be “old news” and unworthy of scrutiny.

It is all a pattern of politics that is particularly well played by this administration. “Get this crap off of me.  Come here and change shirts with me, then go home and burn this shirt.  You can take the rest of the day off.  Here are a couple of tickets to the ball game tonight.  And remember, you never even saw me today.”

So to cause the ignorant masses to turn their collective heads, we now have the IRS/conservative NPO scandal.  How convenient!  In spite it having been known for over two years, it is now news and the media is willing to run with it.  The diversion, saved for just such an occasion is now put to use.  They’ve taken a bad situation and exploited it to take the attention away from a worse situation.  The media gives the second scandal all the attention and soon the lives of four Americans, flagrant lies, and cover-up fall to the wayside.

Again, for those who have not yet heard it, I use the example of the school yard bully saying, “Hey, look over there”.  There’s nothing to see, but when you turn back both the bully and the triple chocolate brownie mom made are gone.

So, which clerk will find them self inspecting the bus undercarriage now?  It started with some doofer in Cleveland who somehow had access to records from Tea Party and other Patriot groups across the nation.  That didn’t work out well and now the fingers begin pointing up the agency food chain.

Remember the DHS directive paper that lumped returning veterans, pro second amendment, anti abortion, anti illegal immigration, or pro smaller government (or more than one or all of the above)  with white supremacists and domestic terrorists.  Virtually anybody who might disagree with the socialist leaning policies of this administration is the enemy.  Not so much Islamic extremists, just national patriots should be watched closely.

How many of us will accept and excuse this faux pas blamed on some low-level operative of the most powerful asset the government has against the people?  How many people actually heard about or paid any attention to the testimony given last Wednesday?  How many loyal Democrats even care a whit about anything other than their SNAP card and Obamaphone? (more…)

I must admit, right up front, that I did not see or hear all of yesterday’s press conference.  I was watching CNN at the gym and only caught some of the questions and some of the answers between my own grunts and sighs.

However, the questions I did hear asked by members of the main stream media really amazed me.  A few of the administration’s lapdogs actually asked questions regarding Benghazi and the IRS auditing of conservative non-profits and overburdening conservative applicants with non-essential questions and paperwork.  I wrote about this practice back on February 29, 2012 with a posting titled VIOLENT UPRISING…HERE?

I don’t know if an MSNBC representative attended the public briefing.  I didn’t see anybody blow Carney a kiss or purse their lips, but CNN’s cameras may have turned away at that time, if anybody did.

Of course, Jay Carney’s non-answers to all questions were so oblique that some in the press corps actually had to rephrase and ask again.  They truly seemed interested in obtaining the answers.  They didn’t get any, but at least they seemed interested for once.  Jay, of course, would begin each time with an opening  like, I’ve already answered that, but I’ll try again.  He would then go into a disjointed and incomprehensible monologue avoiding the question while blaming Republicans for politicizing the issue.  The guy is good, really good, at this.

Why is it political to ask for the truth?  And, how can the truth be politicized?  At least he didn’t call anybody racist that I heard.

Perhaps some in the White House press corps are finally becoming aware that the “most transparent administration in history” has duped and used them for the past five years and that the ignorant American public actually want answers.

When I arrived home from my workout, I discovered that the White House, held a closed door “deep background” meeting with members of 14 news organizations before the public briefing.  Not all correspondents received the invitation, just fourteen.

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how the journalists rework the misinformation they received in the meeting before the press conference. I hope, for their sakes, that the Ativan dosed water offered to the “deep background” privileged helps them massage, cull, reword, interpolate, and otherwise change any messages of truth the way the Benghazi facts turned into the White House talking points.  That way, the receptive general public will continue to think they know what’s going on and not get confused by reality.

BTW, for those amongst the ignorant public who missed the really important news from the major media hacks, Michael Jackson is still dead.
