SEEKING THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR

August 7, 2017

According to a 2010 study by Columbia University, remedial math courses are necessary for students entering community colleges. The study states that nearly 50% of freshman students are not proficient in math and must catch up in order to participate in a regular curriculum.

Causally referred to as 13th grade, the courses for freshman year are costly and time consuming for those who wish to graduate within reasonable time. But, guhuck,…unqualified students can say they is in college. This here is edacashun in the twenny oneth senchery.

Don’t require participation or completion of assignments in grade and high school, just pass the students for attending classes. In some cases, students are even paid for stopping by the school during regular class time. <link>

For those who do show up regularly on their own, give them grades that make them feel good about themselves. Everyone is at the top of the class.

This is nothing new. I have made my feelings about our schools and “presence promotion” known previously and often. <link>

Now, for those who cannot understand or choose not to participate in mathematics enlightenment, Eloy Ortiz Oakley, chancellor of California Community Colleges is willing to do away with algebra as a graduation requirement. He says it is a civil rights issue that disproportionately plagues low income Americans. His own words, “If you think about all the underemployed or unemployed Americans in this country who cannot connect to a job in this economy — which is unforgiving of those students who don’t have a credential — the biggest barrier for them is this algebra requirement. It’s what has kept them from achieving a credential.”

Okay, so now the uneducated individual has a credential and gets a job? How long will that person last if he or she doesn’t have the knowledge required for the position or is too lazy to learn the position because of his or her training by the system?

According to the Pew Research Center, the United States is dropping lower and lower in the rankings against other world countries. Students primarily educated in Asian countries perform far better and generally rank in the top 5-10 worldwide. <link>

Some four year colleges are now limiting the number of Asian students. Could this be due to the fact that some cultures still encourage personal responsibility and emphasize the need for education and knowledge over social equality? Could it be that those people who believe in hard work and self discipline are changing the arch of the bell curve to cause more sub-par or failing grades among our coddled youth?

Since the majority of our offspring do so poorly in all three fundamental groups (math, science and reading) why do we even bother spending valuable taxpayer money or class time on the lazy urchins with these now outdated subjects? By doing away with such unnecessary studies as U.S. and world history, English, geography, math, biology, etc. there would be so much more time for the pertinent and requisite studies of the day that will help them be successful and prosper. Gender reassignment, multi-sexual enlightenment, race baiting relations, claiming cultural offense and peaceful protest through aggression and the use of weapons are sure to make life better for all.

Oh, yeah, one course that must be taught in our public schools is how to demand that someone else properly fill out the application for complete government life subsidy. Then the kids will qualify for a diploma (that they cannot read). After the ceremony, the graduating class can then stroll down the hall, certificate in hand, to the embedded government office and get an early start on a subservient life by applying for public assistance. That way they can avoid the embarrassment of being unqualified to flip hamburgers, wash linen or pick up trash in the parkways of life.

IS DONALD J. TRUMP IS THE WRONG OR RIGHT PRESIDENT TO LEAD THIS COUNTRY?

July 5, 2017

The knowledge and intelligence of the voting public has been so degraded over the past two to three decades that choosing a president is no longer a matter of national pride, personal integrity or doing what is best for the country. Voting has become a popularity contest. Idiots at the polls now vote for the candidate deemed by the media and pundits as “most likely to win”. That way they can feel good about themselves after the election.

Our last president won the idiot choice award twice. Once winning because of his ancestral heritage, oratory and charisma and a second time on his oratory and charisma alone. He did little to benefit the economy, blacks and other minorities, business, workers or bolster the standing of the U.S. among other nations of the world. In fact, he did just the opposite. He damaged the U.S. with his actions in attempt to swiftly turn the country into a Marxist regime. Even many of those who voted for the free party favors offered by President Obama capably recognized that his perceived successor was not the right person for the soon to be vacated office.

The other choice was a non politician; someone who many thought might stand a chance of correcting the deviant course the nation was put upon during the previous eight years. The choice was either Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Clearly, Hillary would continue down the path toward socialism. That left the successful celebrity and billionaire business magnate, Donald Trump.

It was clear and well known for years before the announcement of his candidacy that Mr. Trump is a strong but crude business specialist and not a politician. Those factors drew tens of thousands to the rallies in which he championed the exact opposite of what the nation had experienced with the outgoing administration. Trump said he would fill his cabinet with the best, most qualified and successful members who were willing to take on the matters of the nation with aplomb, not apology.

Unlike the cautious, politically correct and eloquent Barack Obama, Donald Trump is rash, brash, direct and unapologetic in his words and actions. He decisively says what is on his mind without forethought of political consequence. He wants to correct the ills of the nation rapidly. He holds meetings and listens to his counselors’ and advisers’ input but does not dwell on the small differences of opinion and expertise that stall implementation. Eg. He would not wait 16 hours (time to allow escape) before authorizing a raid on America’s #1 enemy.

In his first six months:

President Trump has removed the bindings from our combat troops that were put in place by the military shaming Obama. He does not micro-manage the military. He leaves battlefield decisions to the well trained officers in command of the fighters. The rules of engagement have returned to reasonable. Our troops are once again allowed to defend themselves and they can take an offensive posture against those who wish to kill them. Our fighting men and women are no longer two legged targets. He, President Trump, is regaining the respect for and from our military, allies and our enemies on behalf of America.

The stock market is at an all time high. Retirement funds/401Ks are building assets for workers. Employment is regaining ground as business improves. Not only is the fictitious unemployment rate dramatically lower than any time during the business wrecking Obama years <link> , the true labor participation rate  <link> is commendably higher. Consumer confidence is up. Though auto and large luxury items remain slow, home sales are not.

The housing market is rebounding with resale homes on the market for an average of 45 days over 2011’s average of 84 days. Prices are appreciating as well with a national average increase of almost 8.5% between May 2016 and May 2017. Between the November elections and present, that appreciation is actually 9.2% <link>.

Illegal immigration is down by a whopping 65%-67% according to government statistics. Illegal alien criminals are self deporting along with those under ICE deportation orders. Many who would otherwise attempt breaking into the nation are rethinking the consequences. Paying a coyote thousands of dollars only to be ejected within weeks or months of entry, if they even succeed at getting in, is considered the primary reason.

We now have a balanced Supreme Court. The majority of the seated justices believe in and adhere to the U.S. Constitution. One more constructionist will restore the order of law our founding fathers imagined.

As president, Donald Trump has managed to accomplish this and more despite the “resistance” from congress and the socialist/fascist lemmings that still follow the defeated America hating leaders of the Democrat party, past and present. He is still ahead of the establishment swamp creatures evading changes to business as usual in Washington, D.C.

If he would only forego the acidic, rapid fire tweets that allow the ammunition they pursue, he could possibly win their minds as he presents them and the entire country with benefits beyond what they believe they seek. Left to their present obvious choice, we would have the economic and political woes of Venezuela.

Even perfection would probably be poorly received. However, it is not becoming for the man in charge to personally defend himself against every attacker or perceived attacker through vicious social media retorts on a daily basis. Many of the verbal pugilists would fall to the wayside without such goading and prompting.

However, the general public refuses to accept that Donald Trump is holding two positions right now. First and foremost he is a successful businessman. As such he has had to intermingle in politics for years, yet he is no politician. He is a doer; he acts and reacts without hesitation. He is not one to dwell on or over-think situations. He sought and was awarded the presidency. He did so to make the changes necessary to restore America to its former standing. He is learning politics and the mire created by bureaucracy. It must be frustrating to him.

Second, he is the President of the United States. He is in transition. In business, he listens to and sorts advice from his management team. He then acts in the most appropriate way for the betterment of his business and his employees. As he attempts to meld common sense business practices with politics he is encountering potholes and speed bumps. Not everyone in Congress has the same goals in mind and some are unforgiving. They not only balk at ideas not aligned with their thinking, they stall and obstruct and restrain any progress because it is the way of government.

Donald Trump is a social liberal, a fiscal conservative and a national patriot. He believes strongly in the rule of law and expects compliance. His strength is in his patriotism. This is a combination that Washington, D.C. and the nation has not seen, at least not for many years. It is one that confuses the establishment and infuriates the left who cannot accept anything other than someone who kow-tows to their own “all inclusive” liberal, progressive, socialist ideology.

Though some cannot separate the individual from the office, they would be far better off if they could. President Trump is truly doing some wonderful things for the country. Mr. Trump is an unabashed Twitiot who will lash out when demeaned. He said early on that when he is hit he hits back harder. The media hates him for this. Once again, he is only doing what he promised. Presidential? Eh, not so much.

To sum it up, I said in 2007 that it was time for a black president, but Barack Obama was not the right black man. He proved that I was correct.

I believed then as I do now that the country needs a leader with strong ties to, and understanding of, business. He’s been in office only six months. Business gurus agree that it takes an average of 13 months for a person to comfortable fit into a new position. Does he deserve more time to prove he’s the leader this country needs? I think so, but I’m open to changing that opinion.

IT WAS CALLED A DAY WITHOUT IMMIGRANTS BUT FOR MANY IT WAS THE LAST DAY OF WORK

February 22, 2017

After eight years of coddling people who have skirted laws and agents in their quest to break into our country, some employers finally found the strength to push back. Stories abound from coast to coast regarding the many business owners who decided that their livelihoods would not be dictated by the people they employ.

Last Thursday was labeled “A Day Without Immigrants”. Natural born citizens as well as legal and illegal immigrants took to the streets in protest of what some call security for our borders, economy and nation in general. Many of the protesters found that actions have consequences. Employers have an abundance of applications and resumes for people anxious to fill the now vacant positions.

According to news articles:

Tulsa, OK – 12 Latinos were dismissed for failing to show up for work. The business had to close for the day and the owner lost his ability to pay his ongoing bills that day.

Statesville, N.C. – 18 people lost their employment for failing to report to work on time-sensitive contracts.

Lexington, S.C. – after being warned, 21 workers were fired for defiantly not showing up for work.

Bonita Springs, FL – 6 staff members no longer have jobs.

Commerce City, CO – 30 brick layers were set idle.

Nolensville, TN – 20 households lost, at least, a significant portion of their income.

Before you cry RACIST you must understand that when employees of any nationality shut down a business, the owner must assure that it will not happen a second time for the same or any other reason. When a person invests their expertise, labor and money to produce an ongoing income for themselves and their family, that becomes his or her priority. Employing people is only a means to achieve that personal goal. There is no obligation to provide for those willing to cause harm to that business or employer. If only we could get rid of the insubordinate deadwood in government as easily.

It’s not a matter of race or nationality, it’s a matter of protecting one’s investment. If these employers were truly racist, would he or she have given a job to someone they despise because of their national origin or skin color?

Restaurant patrons coast to coast experienced delays in receiving their fare because waiters, cooks and other staff failed to report for work. Some establishments were forced to close for the day due to lack of staff. From California to Maine, the unreliable are now seeking new employment. While many, but not all, are Hispanic, that is not the reason for their firing. Caring more about making a political statement than they did about their employer’s right to continue in business is the reason.

MULTICULTURAL ACCOMMODATIONS ARE DISRESPECTFUL AND OFFENSIVE UNLESS THEY ARE MANDATED BY LIBERALS

January 10, 2017

Barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices; we are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008 San Juan, Puerto Rico

The term ‘Bizarro’ is an informal expression used to describe a situation that is so contorted it requires a person to cock their head to one side, shake it and take another look. The works of M.C. Escher could definitely be called Bizarro for they visually defy all reason and logic. To look at them critically can be disturbing to the normal mind and cause seizures in others.

The world today looks more like an Escher drawing than reality. We have become Bizarro World, USA.

What confusing times we live in now. In one case, a white man wearing dreadlocks in the inner city constituted cause for a beating by four black men. The bold hairstyle was, to them, considered unacceptable “cultural appropriation”. The unwritten and ever changing liberal doctrine, does not allow for some people to incorporate diversity into their lives.

On the other side of the liberal coin, if you live in California, Arizona or Texas no matter what your race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or country of origin you must celebrate Cinco de Mayo by drinking tequila and eating tacos and nachos on May 5. Otherwise, you’re a racist. However, don’t wear a sombrero to a masquerade party on Halloween because the head wear depicts a negative stereotype of Mexicans.

No longer do military men and women have to conform to a dress code. Uniform is no longer uniform. Turbans, hijabs, beards, dreadlocks, cornrows and twists are now acceptable personal hairstyles and grooming modes while in service to the nation. Those personal displays are for religious and cultural accommodations. Tradition has changed. Wearing a Star of David or a cross in plain view remains verboten.

At the current rate, I fear that soon, learning to march in unison, to work together and as a team, will no longer be a part of the military regimen. Perhaps saluting (a sign of respect to superiors) will also be abandoned.

The system of rules and regulations, that is and maintains discipline within the military, is eroded. In the military ranks it is devastating. It is another aspect of Obama and his administration diminishing the superiority of our armed forces. Rapid and constant change only creates disruption and chaos.

I hope that when President-elect Trump says he wants to make America great again, he means to restore those values and traditions that contributed to our imperfect but admirable history. Blocking illegal immigration and expelling the criminal element is a start. Screening immigrants to allow those who can enhance the country with their intellect, education and knowledge along with those among the most needy and persecuted will benefit and empower all. It is the perfect second step to comprehensive immigration reform. Those are the traditions of our history that the recent miserable, Marxist, socialist First Couple have marred and destroyed.

There are ten  days remaining before a new administration can begin rebuilding the economy, creating jobs, restoring civility and common sense and well, generally righting the many contemptuous and destructive acts of the past eight years. Democrats in congress are ready to make the transition back to normalcy as miserable and rugged as possible.  They just don’t seem to comprehend that elections have consequences.  But that’s the way they demonstrate their compassion, inclusiveness, understanding and acceptance.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE JOBS AMERICANS WON’T DO AND HOW TO SAVE $MILLIONS

December 20, 2016

As president, Barack Obama managed to turn our culture from one of pride and responsibility into one of government dominance and citizen dependence. With a few of his signature moves, he encouraged acceptance and addiction to government control.

It’s true, very true, that there are jobs of labor that Americans refuse to do. Why should they submit themselves to exertion when they can sit at home and have money deposited into their bank accounts or their EBT card replenished each month?

Why work when it takes up your free time and demands that you be somewhere at a specific time, for a designated period and perform a defined task? Transportation becomes a problem if you have to report to an employer. Public transportation is often slow and indirect. Gasoline, maintenance and insurance is costly for a personal auto. Walking or biking is out of the question because the employee is often spent by the time they get coffee in the break room before beginning a work shift.

Americans are trained for a mediocre existence, not for productive and rewarding work. Flipping burgers, making up hotel beds, sweeping floors, picking grapes and oranges are all time and labor intensive tasks that are now beneath the dignity of Americans. These tasks and others of like ilk are rapidly becoming beneath the dignity of immigrants too, legal and illegal alike, thanks to the generosity of our government.

When sending money to support family members abroad, it is necessary to take advantage of all income avenues and streams. If that means using a stolen social security number to obtain stipends and benefits from the government while cleaning houses, mowing lawns or hauling trash for homeowners without reporting the income, so be it. The dual income model also works for citizens, just not as often because most of the “under the table” jobs are those Americans won’t do.

These habits and ethics are promulgated by liberals and, in particular progressive liberals such as HRC and Marxists like BHO. They are necessary to develop and build upon a socialist structure of government dependence. They promote voluntary enslavement to the ignorant, indolent and slovenly.

Turn now to a culture where everybody works for what they receive; a society that requires recipients of taxpayer funds to partake of meaningful toil in order to justify the benevolence bestowed upon them. Rather than sitting at home (in section 8 supplemented housing) awaiting the next cash infusion, why not make it mandatory that the recipients pick a head of lettuce or clean a motel.  How about removing graffiti from walls and bridges or picking up roadside trash?

Encouraged employment” worked when President Bill Clinton reluctantly signed the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996 (PRWORA). Colloquially known as the Welfare-to-Work Act, it passed the House with 256 ayes (226 Republican) and 170 noes (165 Democrat). The bill also passed the Senate with a 73(R) and 1(D) approving with 24(D) rejecting. Most surprisingly, Chris Dodd was the sole Democrat to approve the measure. President Clinton now claims credit for the success of this measure.

The Welfare-to-work program, thanks to the warmhearted Democrats, is now so diluted and polluted that it is no longer a viable program, thus opening opportunities for illegal workers and unreported income. A re-institution of the program with some minor modifications would benefit Welfare recipients, the economy and the country greatly.

Depending on the state of residence, a family of four can receive as much as $46,000 in combined stipend and related benefits. (The actual cost to taxpayers, for this inefficient government interference assistance exceeds $120,000 per recipient.) For equivalence, a working family paying payroll and income taxes, would have to earn approximately $57,500 That works out to about $27.65 per hour for full time (40 hr/wk) employment. According to the New York Times, the median family income in 2015 was only $56,500 (about $27.15 per hour, 40 hours per week). Therefore, it is advantageous for a person of limited education, skills or desire not to seek employment and simply live off the generosity of the government and contributing taxpayers.

A program that would supplement wages for entitlement awardees rather than handing them cash and perks is one possibility to end, or at least moderate, the viscous cycle. Perhaps a tax break to the employer or even a reimbursement for a portion of wages may be in order. Granted, it might be difficult to incentivize employers with this carrot given that a family of four on Welfare receives about 102% of the median worker income for the same family size. But it would definitely reduce the federal and state financial burden for low-income families.

Of course, this would mandate that each benefit grantee (unless legitimately 100% disabled) seek and obtain employment – at any level available. Social welfare case workers and “job developers” currently employed by the taxpaying few, would also be expected to do outreach in local communities rather than spending the workday playing solitaire on their our computers or texting friends and family.

Help Wanted signs appearing in a particular area would warrant investigation, program explanation and contractual offering to hire the most job needy and capable. Though no obligation to hire benefit recipients would be required of any business, mutual gain for employee and employer should cause enough interest to invest in the program. Example: If a business hires Jane or John for an open entry position and pays them minimum wage + 25%, the program reimburses the employer 40% of the total wage paid.

To present an example, some assumptions are required. For this demonstration let us consider:

  1. a state minimum wage of $9.50 per hour. The federal minimum is currently $7.25.
  2. an employer burden of $23 per $100 in wages or 23%. (This figure, entirely dependent upon the Worker Compensation Insurance cost for a particular position, also includes SSI, Medicare, unemployment insurance.)
  3. compensation for sick or vacation time or additional benefits burden are not included in this formula.

Given the parameters above, the true employer cost for a minimum wage worker is currently $11.69 per hour, not $9.50. Adding 25% to the $9.50 per hour means the minimum wage for a program participant is $11.88. The new cost to the employer including burden is $14.61 per hour as the burden is figured on the $11.88 per hour figure.

By reimbursing the employer at a rate of 40% of the new hourly wage ($11.88 x .40 = $4.75), the business now has an employee at an hourly cost of $7.13 (not $9.50) plus the burden of $2.73 or $9.86. The employee receives $2.38 per hour above minimum wage for a starting position and the employer saves $1.83 per hour per employee. Both entities contribute to the federal tax revenue whereas only the employer does now with the Welfare recipient drawing from it.

The savings realized by the employer could then be awarded to the most productive employees.

Based on the $46,000 annual figure, under this program the taxpayers’ burden is reduced by $36,120 annually and the participant regains his or her self respect. This is not intended to make a person now on Welfare wealthy. It is not meant to compete with the median income of the U.S. It would simply offer a hand up rather than a hand out. It would also offer the opportunity for someone to increase their own income by demonstrating their worthiness before the lower level jobs are overtaken by electronics and robotics.

The suggested program will track participants for a period of 180 days. This 180 day term allows the participant sufficient opportunity to become familiar with the job and expectations. It allows the employer to evaluate the participant and determine whether or not to continue his or her employment.

An option available to the employer to terminate employment of the participant, for cause, at any time within the 180 day period is always open and would provide feedback to the program case workers and administrators regarding the individual participants. After three terminations by different employers within the 180 day term, eligibility for Welfare or program participation is revoked. (This will keep players from gaming the system and frustrating employers.)

The model identified above is nothing new or innovative. It has been used in numerous situations by non-profit organizations (NPO) for decades. What might be considered new would be direct state or federal involvement through established Employment Development Departments.

Is this the perfect solution to jobs and Welfare? Nah, it’s just a hell of a lot better than paying people to waste their time sitting at home and collecting benefits as is being done now.
