AMERICAN EDUCATION TODAY

March 1, 2020

I recently came across an article (accompanied by two videos) wherein a Jimmy Kimmel “man on the street” quizzed random people on finding and identifying countries on a blank map of the world. He then shared a clip of Republicans in specific being asked the same questions. <link>

While the second clip shown was to indicate the ignorance of Republicans (because this is the focus of late night comedy today), both actually portrayed just how ineffectively public schools are educating our youth. A discerning look beyond the surface presentations illustrates a non-partisan indictment of liberal teachings of today.

As social justice, multi-gender acceptance and income inequality are promoted by the educators over core courses such as English, math, science, geography, world and U.S. history it is easy to see how and why the U.S. is forfeiting ground in education compared to other countries. Today’s youth, lacking basic knowledge and skills, are also losing the ability to move into and keep up with the needs of the current workforce.

The same people, progressives, who are advocating for more immigration to fill open positions in technology and research are the very ones who are not educating the students in their charge! This is exactly why 2.5 million available STEM positions are not being filled.

According to one Pew research study, the U.S. ranked 21st of 23 countries in math. (Could this be the reason America’s youth today cannot figure out their gas mileage or count the change from a purchase without an electronic calculating device?) In critical and analytical thought (problem solving) the ranking was 17 out of 19. (Perhaps this is why the only defense for a progressive’s position in a dispute is to end the discussion by calling their opponent RACIST and either striking out physically or walking away.)

Perhaps spending more classroom time teaching inductive and deductive reasoning and the differences between them would be appropriate. Teaching people to accept and absorb information they first encounter as fact and rejecting any dissenting information rather than giving them the tools to decide with reason what is true or appropriate is not helpful to society. Knowing how to use reasoning techniques to refute the spoon-fed ideologies of the teachers and professors would allow a student a breadth of education not offered now. Today, it seems those authority figures fail students who choose to question the propaganda. It would be a novel idea for today’s educational setting to have opposing views once again received and debated.

The type of demonstration shown by Kimmel illustrates the ignorance, not of Republicans, Democrats or Independents, but of those walking our streets in general. It becomes easy for one to see the depths to which the U.S. has fallen educationally. Given that the overwhelming majority of teachers and professors are of progressive ideology, deductively it follows that progressives are to blame for the failures in our public schools and education system.

NEWS ALERT: HOW LIES BECOME TRUTHS

July 18, 2019

We hear what we want to hear, see what we want to see and accept what we choose to accept. Or, as with the quote often attributed to Marcus Aurelius, “Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth”.

It is becoming all too common. A statement, a tweet or gesture is taken out of context and spread across social media until it seeps into the realm of traditional media. If not prior, it then becomes the truth that many seek. The repetition makes it undeniable. It’s real. It happened, I read/saw it everywhere!

Because “somebody did something” some time ago, it is easy to conflate that happening to a glance, a phrase or motion giving it a meaning never meant. It is a ploy used effectively throughout our daily lives and is profoundly used by the main stream media and politicians.

While conflation for effect is used by both sides of the political aisle, it is used most frequently by the left and the far left. If you don’t believe what I say or act the way I believe is correct it’s because you’re a RACIST.

At Judge Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearing, a former clerk, sitting behind him, made a movement with her right hand. To Trump haters, this was a display of the White Power symbol. To some, it was a showing of “OK” as if she was agreeing with his answer or with the proceedings. To others she was simply scratching her left arm.

Michelle Obama: “All this for a Damn flag”, was accepted as a true lip reading at 9/11 commemoration ceremony and it became fodder for hatred of the first lady. It gained authenticity as the video and interpretation made the rounds. Nobody other than Michelle and Barack knows for sure what she actually said.

Go back to your country has been used so many times it has the same affect as calling somebody racist…none. Therefore, it can be used as a point of conflation when necessary.

Last Sunday, President Trump aired his frustration with four Democrat freshmen in a tweet. The actual tweet: “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

There was no reference or inference to their sex, heritage, race, ethnicity or national origin. There was no mention of any country yet the distorted version which is so prevalent is “Go back to their countries and fix their governments”. For effect, the Trump haters across the nation, in congress, in cyber, on air and in columns and “actual” news stories have conflated this tweet with a familiar admonishment.

The “Squad” to whom President referred in his tweet consists of:

Ilhan Omar – Minneapolis, MN – poverty rate for Minneapolis is +/- 22% compared to MN over all rate of 10.2%. 109% higher than the national average. For every 100,000 people, there are 15.73 daily crimes that occur in Minneapolis making it less safe than 97% of the cities in the United States. In Minneapolis you have a 1 in 18 chance of becoming a victim of a crime on any given day.

Ayanna Pressley – MA 7th district – Boston. A very diverse population. Poverty is 18.7% or 1.5 times the rate of MA and 1.4 times the national rate. Violent crime is 87.66% higher than the state of Massachusetts and 78.15% higher than national crime rate.

Alexandrea Ocasia-Cortez – Bronx/Queens, New York. 1.7 Million people (52% of her district’s population) lives below the poverty threshold. Chances of being a victim of violent crime is almost 3 times greater than anywhere else in New York State.

Rashida Tlaib – MI 13th dist. Includes half of Detroit. Median household income $29,863 (roughly half of U.S. income). Unemployment 24.7% (6.5 times the national average). Violent crime is second highest in U.S.

Is there still a question about what President Trump was referring to when he said, “Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came.”

If you watch or read nothing but opinion news from biased sources you’re left with only one viewpoint and therefore it is the correct one. If you favor the truth, you will avail yourself to multiple sources that vary in viewpoint, each containing at least a modicum of truth.

THE PROGRESSIVE HEAD FAKE

January 18, 2018

They did it to President Johnson in 1965. They did it to President Reagan in 1986 with approximately 3 million illegal aliens and they apparently just did it again with President Trump. “Give me what I want, and I promise to think about what you have suggested you would like to have happen”. Then, as soon as the left gets what they want, in whole and in all parts, they seemingly forget the second portion of the agreement. Worse yet, they want and expect even more concessions before complying with the remaining portions of the original request.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!

Over the years, “comprehensive immigration reform” has been bandied about as a negotiating point, political tool or a weapon but that is as far as it has been carried by either party. Now progressives want DACA certified as a stand alone program. After the occurrence of such, they claim willingness to “work on” comprehensive immigration reform. To progressives, however, comprehensive means vague language that allows entitlement, nurturing and amnesty for foreigners illegally in the country and the extended family members they choose to include in the future. Progressives do it again and again and our semi-conservative legislators, blindly believing the best in people, dupe themselves.

This time around the subject is about 800,000 young people (some now upwards of 30 years old) who have taken advantage of multiple entitlement programs including free K-12 education that they barely understand. Fewer than half are proficient in English and have little intention or desire to assimilate into the American culture. They carry flags from the countries to which they still owe allegiance and prefer conversing in foreign languages. Though they have chosen to separate themselves from their family members in order to receive American entitlements, they expect us to welcome not just their offspring but extended clan and teach, train and provide for them as well.

This is the DACA program. By mindfully granting 800,000 young and innocent foreigners the opportunity to take advantage of taxpayers, President Obama set the course for an unquenchable thirst of millions. It is the Cloward and Piven plan to overwhelm the welfare and economic systems carried to the Nth degree.  The current president and congress are now left to deal with this exasperating and untenable situation.

If you agree with those who want legalization for 800,000 DACA grantees or if you are on the fence regarding the issue, please click on the link below and read the article written in 2010. Though it was written during the dictatorial and over-lording reign of President Obama, the last 2/3 of it is as applicable today as it was then.

https://bizarroworldusa.wordpress.com/2010/07/02/obama-is-a-community-organizer/

In 1965, the Immigration and Nationality Act (aka the Hart-Cellar Act), changed our immigration system to allow a more diverse population to legally enter the United States. It was gracious and humanitarian but did not adequately address the influx of illegal entrants to our nation. That was over 50 years ago.

More recently (only 32 years ago) President Ronald Reagan signed the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. There was a promise to effectively control the illegal traffic at our borders and shorelines after granting amnesty to some 3 million people, but again that pledge was never to come about.

Over the past 118 years since 1900, there have been over 30 major structural changes to the way immigration is handled in the United States. None of them addresses illegal entry with punishment harsh enough to prevent it or even curtail it. Our “leaders” keep allowing the problem to grow and fester then say it is too massive to be handled all at once. Thus, we need “comprehensive reform” that can be forgotten at time of funding and long thereafter.

This is a can so dented from kicking that it can no longer be identified as a once valued container. “Comprehensive” is overwhelming and that is exactly why it stalemates every attempted conversation. There must be a starting point and logical order to address the problem. That starting point is: border walls with limited and safeguarded entry points, along with cyber, aerial, radar and infrared detection at all points of possible entry, air, land and sea.

Our boat is sinking and this is no time to test the potability of the water flooding in. We must plug the holes and bail the excess before we all drown. We can no longer massage and modify our immigration laws to comply with the wishes of people from around the globe  wanting to remake our nation in the image of the countries they dislike enough to leave behind.

This is not about racism as the left wants to inject into every conversation.  This is about protecting our infrastructure; our economy, our industry, our educational institutions and our democratic republic as a whole.

Only after securing our borders and shorelines to protect the nation from further invasion of insurgents willing to overtake and transform our democratic republic and deporting the intruders with alternative allegiance, can we undertake measures to simplify our legal immigration system. And, we can no longer allow progressives to undermine our sovereignty.

GOODBYE CALIFORNIA

October 18, 2017

The citizens (and illegal aliens) of California want to secede from the union. What a wonderful happening for those of us who appreciate our nation. They want their sovereignty and we want freedom from their insanity.

Per usual, those of the liberal progressive left who want to become their own country see only the good points of being a nation of their own. They see not what they have already done to the region. They see seaports for trade and beaches for tourism. What they fail to see is the enormous debt liberals have foisted upon their state that must be absorbed solely by the new nation. (As of this writing, the spending exceeds the revenue by more than $28 billion <link> and is ever growing). Clearly, 10% of the state’s population is receiving food stamps (SNAP payments).  Many more also receive federal payments in the form of EBT, WIC, AFDC, SSI, etc.

They ignore the number of companies abandoning the region for more business friendly destinations. They rebuff the fact that the higher wage earners and wealthy retirees are exiting for states with more favorable economies and living conditions. They refuse to see that those people are taking their tax dollars away from the spendthrifts of Sacramento leaving behind a plethora of welfare awardees.

A reasonable person might see that each and every year, the state cries to Washington D.C. and FEMA for federal aid to adjust and offset the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of damage created by raging wildfires in the summer and flooding and mudslides during the winter months. Sonoma County officials, for example, are encouraging those affected by the recent wildfires to contact FEMA directly. All current federal access would go away and have to be paid by the few remaining California tax contributors.

When President Trump announced that taxpayers would no longer be illegally required to subsidize insurance companies as dictated under Obamacare, California (along with 18 other primarily Democrat controlled states) immediately hit the courts. California allows, even encourages, people in the country illegally to participate in the scheme that makes insurance expensive for the citizen taxpayers of all states.

Not only are nearly 900,000 people on the paid unemployment rolls in California, clearly 10% of the state’s population is receiving federal or combined federal and state welfare subsidies. Meanwhile…lawmakers of the state continue to pad their expense accounts and fund their retirements at the cost of citizens who often cannot even afford adequate housing.

That brings us to the homeless population and the diseases of such. California declared a state of emergency due to an outbreak of hepatitis A. At last count, nearly 600 homeless and indigent people have been identified as victims of this disease. Hepatitis A is spread by contact with other infected individuals or consumption of contaminated food or water.

While not confirmed, the CDC is looking into migrant camps where day laborers gather as the source. These camps are often found near construction sites and areas of agriculture. The day laborers tend to spend their largess in areas of lesser affluence, i.e. areas with high homeless populations.

Well, Goodbye California. Here’s hoping you do well on your own.

SEEKING THE LOWEST COMMON DENOMINATOR

August 7, 2017

According to a 2010 study by Columbia University, remedial math courses are necessary for students entering community colleges. The study states that nearly 50% of freshman students are not proficient in math and must catch up in order to participate in a regular curriculum.

Causally referred to as 13th grade, the courses for freshman year are costly and time consuming for those who wish to graduate within reasonable time. But, guhuck,…unqualified students can say they is in college. This here is edacashun in the twenny oneth senchery.

Don’t require participation or completion of assignments in grade and high school, just pass the students for attending classes. In some cases, students are even paid for stopping by the school during regular class time. <link>

For those who do show up regularly on their own, give them grades that make them feel good about themselves. Everyone is at the top of the class.

This is nothing new. I have made my feelings about our schools and “presence promotion” known previously and often. <link>

Now, for those who cannot understand or choose not to participate in mathematics enlightenment, Eloy Ortiz Oakley, chancellor of California Community Colleges is willing to do away with algebra as a graduation requirement. He says it is a civil rights issue that disproportionately plagues low income Americans. His own words, “If you think about all the underemployed or unemployed Americans in this country who cannot connect to a job in this economy — which is unforgiving of those students who don’t have a credential — the biggest barrier for them is this algebra requirement. It’s what has kept them from achieving a credential.”

Okay, so now the uneducated individual has a credential and gets a job? How long will that person last if he or she doesn’t have the knowledge required for the position or is too lazy to learn the position because of his or her training by the system?

According to the Pew Research Center, the United States is dropping lower and lower in the rankings against other world countries. Students primarily educated in Asian countries perform far better and generally rank in the top 5-10 worldwide. <link>

Some four year colleges are now limiting the number of Asian students. Could this be due to the fact that some cultures still encourage personal responsibility and emphasize the need for education and knowledge over social equality? Could it be that those people who believe in hard work and self discipline are changing the arch of the bell curve to cause more sub-par or failing grades among our coddled youth?

Since the majority of our offspring do so poorly in all three fundamental groups (math, science and reading) why do we even bother spending valuable taxpayer money or class time on the lazy urchins with these now outdated subjects? By doing away with such unnecessary studies as U.S. and world history, English, geography, math, biology, etc. there would be so much more time for the pertinent and requisite studies of the day that will help them be successful and prosper. Gender reassignment, multi-sexual enlightenment, race baiting relations, claiming cultural offense and peaceful protest through aggression and the use of weapons are sure to make life better for all.

Oh, yeah, one course that must be taught in our public schools is how to demand that someone else properly fill out the application for complete government life subsidy. Then the kids will qualify for a diploma (that they cannot read). After the ceremony, the graduating class can then stroll down the hall, certificate in hand, to the embedded government office and get an early start on a subservient life by applying for public assistance. That way they can avoid the embarrassment of being unqualified to flip hamburgers, wash linen or pick up trash in the parkways of life.
