SUNDAY NEWS PROGRAMS…THE FEAR AND THE SPIN

January 25, 2017

I spent Sunday morning triple flipping. That’s what I call it when I take in the political lies and spin from three TV stations at once. I tend to change channels between CNN, FOX and one other. Often the third is MSNBC but depending on the time, it could be a broadcast station. This week it was Media Buzz on FOX, Meet the Press on NBC and Reliable Sources on CNN.

This week, the three stations listed above had quite a spread of topics. I was particularly interested in the discussion on CNN. Thus, I spent the majority of my morning viewing time with them. All the while triple flipping, however. They (CNN) spent the better part of the program (I estimate about 24 min. air time) talking about nothing other than honesty in the Trump administration. The panel discussed how they expected information would be shared with the press and the American people and how reliable it might be.

The gentle diatribe seemed to center around how they would interpret and interpolate what came to them in briefings and what they were able to glean otherwise through their (chuckle, chuckle) reliable sources. It sounded much like they were afraid that if they tried to spin too fast, too hard or too much they might actually but unwittingly and undesirably present the truth. Whoa, careful, careful!

Of the entire discussion, I heard not one utterance regarding the lack of credibility of information they received over the past 8 years. Not one word. Nobody brought up Fast and Furious. No one offered dialogue about “If you like your doctor…” or “…no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase”. My hearing deficit may have precluded me from hearing anything about the myriad scandals (within the “scandal free”administration), coverups and lies about them that these stations, and almost all others, ignored. But that might be because President Obama said in 2013,“This is the most transparent administration in history”.

Politiks is politiks! There will always be things happening within our government that may never be known until we’re all long gone. There will be leaks from and about virtually every event by almost every department. Some of those leaks will be for real and some will be purposefully misleading. It’s a matter of how we receive, and personally analyze what we receive, that can leave us with knowledge. Or, we can rely on the opinions of the powder-faced journalists, reporters and pundits to guide us through life.

For myself, I choose to see what happens. Prejudging what may occur and trying to alter the perception of what actually does occur to meet my preconceived allusions is too difficult.

The coming four years is unquestionably going to be different from the past eight years. It well might be a disaster, but I’m willing to see and judge it for myself…on what happens, not what is said about what might happen. If it all goes to pot, there’s always impeachment and removal from office. With Republicans in charge of the congress, and not afraid to be labeled racists, it could happen. President Trump could also make America great again.

I’ll be attentive and not at all hesitant to be critical of anything I see, read or hear coming from Washington, D.C.

I have a tendency not to believe much of what I read and question a lot of what I see. My hearing is shot so, for clarity, I often ask for what I think I hear to be repeated – occasionally multiple times. It may disturb a lot of people who want to accept whatever agrees with their foregone conclusion in any situation, but it keeps me sane. Well, as sane as I’m going to be at this point.

For years I have been doing much the same as you see above, searching and researching; not trusting but attempting to verify. Especially when I encounter something that seems too real or too good to be true I tend to question until I am satisfied. Yesterday, however, presented a real challenge to my well being. I really cannot accept any of the above stories with certainty. While there is a confluence of information within them they all read very differently. I guess what might be inferred from any and all is that Maj. Gen. Errol R. Schwartz will be in command of the D.C. National Guard when the inauguration begins, but not at the end.

“Whose choice is it; the General’s, the Army’s, Obama’s or Trump’s to leave his post in the middle of a peaceful transition of power”? The answer remains unclear.  With everything Obama has done in the past 2-3 weeks to make the first hundred days as chaotic as possible, I’m hedging that it is his choice. But then again, Trump wants to get rid of all the Obama acolytes. The General says he submitted his resignation some time ago and agrees that the timing of the acceptance is most definitely odd. So, is the day and time his choice?

AMERICANS NOW DEMAND A STRONG CENTRAL GOVERNMENT

November 23, 2016

While most people today (especially conservatives and libertarians) choose not to admit it, we all want a strong government. Strong, not abusive or authoritarian or devastatingly large, but strong is what we want and need. Collectively, we’ve voted against the thing we truly want on four consecutive occasions now. George W. Bush was weak. He had some good points but overall he was timid and politically concerned. Obama is anemic when compared to Bush. Obama’s strong point is his despotic pen and phone takeover of the other two branches of government.

Trump has vastly different views from those of Obama, and though he has not yet shown himself to be a despotic ideologue, he is recognized as authoritative. A major difference between the two might be Trump’s ability to listen and act upon information that is inconsistent with his prior understanding or knowledge. We’ve already seen him bridge chasms created in the campaign process by meeting with and, at this point, speculatively offering jobs within the administration to his former political detractors.

Obama fired those who didn’t immediately smile and nod in agreement with every wild-eyed romantic suggestion he proposed. Once dismissed, he then shamed the fired mercilessly to cover his own reprehensible actions. Those caught breaking the law on his behalf, however, were awarded sanctuary within the administration. Lateral transfers, advancement or retirement with full pension and benefits are commonly noted. His attorney(s) general refused to prosecute on behalf of the American people because, in more than one case, both are implicated in unlawful events.

Obama is strong in his Utopian views and willingly defies the very constitution on which he claims profound knowledge and is sworn to uphold. Perhaps he studied law, and the constitution in particular, simply to identify how to violate them and avoid expeditious rebuke or repercussions.

We need a strong government, one within which are public servants with strong convictions and adherence to our founding documents and laws made with regard to them. The original documents were written with reason and caution, not emotion or political bias. That is why changing them requires an “act of congress”.

At this point we’ll have to wait and see if the next president drains the swamp as promised or lags along with what we have; a costly bloated and inefficient government filled with regulatory statutes lacking reason or meaning. Already, Democrats are rallying to find the best way to deny confirmation to any right-minded appointees. Donald J. Trump has pledged to rightsize (a business term coined in the late 1990s) the government through attrition and request budgets that help that process along.

Congress may once again act in a congressional manner, as a third member of the government, rather than fearful of being termed racist because they don’t cow-tow to radical wants of a president of color. And yes, orange is a color. Just ask John Boehner. Supreme Court appointees upholding laws rather than common culture will also restore and strengthen the government as it was meant to be.

BOILING FROGS

July 13, 2016

I’m sure that even the ignorant, selfish, complacent, under-educated millenials have heard the story of how to boil a frog. But for those still not aware, here’s how it goes.

If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out. However, if you place a frog in room temperature water it will swim around happily. Turn up the heat slowly and the frog will not notice the difference. It will unwittingly accept new or changing environment until it is cooked to death in the boiling water.

This is what has happened over the past seven and a half years.

In 2007, I said that it was “time for a black man to be president, just not this black man” (meaning Obama). He scared me when he said he was going to “fundamentally transform America”. I didn’t believe then and I don’t believe now that America needed any fundamental change. Perhaps some adjusting or massaging in some areas, but not total and complete change.

The words of his wife bothered me even more. Her words: “We are going to have to change our conversation; we’re going to have to change our traditions, our history; we’re going to have to move into a different place as a nation.” — Michelle Obama, May 14, 2008

Those words, from them both, lit the flame under the nation’s frogs – us.

With each speech he gives regarding the nation, he slyly embeds some subliminal wording to inflame the most aggressive and radical activists. It’s part of his training and education as a community organizer. He does it well.

At first, he subtly pushed for more restraint on law enforcement. Then he, using his calculated oratory, fostered the notion that “standing up” to the unequal application of the law between whites and blacks would gain them respect. From there he has reiterated the perceived disparity again and again until some believe it necessary to engage every officer at every opportunity. When they do defy the authority, whether they’re right or wrong, it sets the stage not for dialog but adversarial aggravation.

Each time the President brings to the forefront old standards or history long past such as slavery and Jim Crow laws, it arouses an ire within the decendents of the oppressed. That resurfaced anger, though the issues were dealt with and corrected decades ago, again becomes an issue for immediate reconciliation and foments unnecessary disquiet.

As the pot continues to heat, we are now at the point where, to blacks, it is acceptable to fight the local authorities constantly. Often now, they are initiating unnecessary situations that can only turn out badly. Calling for the killing of police is sure to cause angst.

Sorry, gotta go now, Obama’s bringing in a new pot.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT AND TYRANNY

June 25, 2016

Again and again we hear that citizens don’t need AR-15s or AK-47s or handguns with high capacity magazines. Those guns are not needed for hunting or sport shooting. Those guns are for nothing other than killing large numbers of people. And the people shouting those slogans are right.

The second amendment, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” was added for the sole purpose of protecting “We the People” from the potential of a tyrannical government.

What most people, on both sides of the gun rights or gun control issue, constantly miss is the preamble to the bill of rights; the first portion of which carries the importance and need for the first ten amendments.

THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory and restrictive clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution.

RESOLVED by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled, two thirds of both Houses concurring, that the following Articles be proposed to the Legislatures of the several States, as amendments to the Constitution of the United States, all, or any of which Articles, when ratified by three fourths of the said Legislatures, to be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of the said Constitution; viz.

ARTICLES in addition to, and Amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America, proposed by Congress, and ratified by the Legislatures of the several States, pursuant to the fifth Article of the original Constitution.

The remaking of our speech, aka: politically correct speech, is a Marxist method of controlling the ignorant and under-educated government dependents by effectively negating the first amendment. Speaking with definition excludes certain potential members of a class. This is done for purpose. Example: “Radical Islamic Terrorists” defines a subset of individuals with a propensity for violence. It separates that group from moderate or peaceful Muslims. However, this administration wants you to believe that it in fact includes all Muslims. This purposeful conflation serves only the radical Muslim community – the ones who want nothing more than to convert or kill all who do not share their primitive views to the fullest.

Please excuse the previous digression, but it does also lend itself to the oncoming and overpowering dictatorial direction of the country. That direction is exactly why the founding fathers of this country deemed it necessary for the citizenry to be armed.

The founders reasoned that the people should have armament like that of any oppressor. Muskets and cap and ball pistols may have been the weaponry of the day, but they were the armament of both the citizens and the government. Today, we have more semi-trained government personnel (this includes the IRS, DHS, HHS, DOL, DOT, EPA, BLM, Departments of Agriculture and Commerce and many more), authorized to carry weapons than total Marine Corps personnel. The government is armed to the hilt with the best and most modern handguns, rifles and ammunition that your money can buy. And, they want nothing more than to remove any potential opposition to their usurped despotic authority.

It is the budding dictators and their uneducated ignorant lemmings who wish to disarm the patriots (“The duty of a Patriot is to protect his country from its government.”Thomas Paine)
of this land so that they can turn it into the likes of Venezuela, Greece, Cuba, China and the former U.S.S.R.

Vote for gun control only if you are at the top of the heap or you choose to figuratively shoot yourself in the foot with the last round legally available to the public for your defense.
